We’ve all heard the age old Personal Development mantra many, many times: Your Thoughts Create Reality
But have you ever really wondered how it works, how thoughts create reality? Rather then try and tackle the entire question in this one article (I have many articles on this topic all over this site if you are curious), I am going to make it my goal to address a few specific points, namely that your thoughts are just alive as you are, and what you create with those living thoughts is also just as alive as you are. This is possible because everything is a single, living, conscious energy.
How do you like that one? Allow me to explain.
Thoughts Create Reality Because They Are Living
You should always think of your thoughts and desires as alive and living through the use of your imagination.
You begin to deliberately create your life and anything you want in life when you begin to understand and accept that the physical world you see is formed by the characteristics of the thoughts, feelings and emotions that are found within you. This is the same thing as saying that the overall quality of your innermost thoughts determines the overall quality of your exterior results in life because your innermost thoughts are projected into physical reality by your emotions and your imagination combined with your expectations.
If you try to hold any emotion in your hand, such as happiness, joy, sorrow or sadness you will quickly find that it is impossible to do this.
Instead, it would be wise to learn and understand that in our lives we can only ever experience the results of our emotions, thoughts and feelings and that we can never hold them in their hands like a brick or any other solid object.
This is important, because by understanding this we can begin to further accept and understand that our thoughts originate outside of what we call physical reality; these thoughts become real when our emotions, imaginations and expectations help them to cross the barrier from non-physical to physical existence.
The Role of Expectations
I find that so many people are always constantly talking about thoughts, feelings and emotions that they forget something as equally important: Expectations. Our expectations can be defined clearly as what we expect to happen to us, or what we expect to happen, involving any situation or circumstance in life.
Expectations are also wildly important because they provide the structure of our realities since it dictates what we believe to be truth or fact, often before anything actually even happens.
Think about this and what it means. If we fail to ever change our expectations, then we will continue to create the same reality over and over again just with different people. We’ll relive the same thing over and over and get the same results every time. Everybody has friends and family members that they can see this happening to. I’d be sure to say that when you look a little closer at yourself you’ll find this to be true about many areas of your life also.
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen who try and change their thoughts, feelings and beliefs towards things and still fail to achieve what they want in life. This is because they continue to expect the same things to happen to them whether they realize it or not. Your expectations can sometimes block you from receiving the things that you are actively trying to create in life because your expectations are a kind of belief themselves.
Some great examples would be the following:
* In relationships, we often expect to have something done to us. Maybe it’s being cheated on, lied to, used, physically or verbally abused or just about any other thing you can think about. You’ll find that as long as you continue to expect these things to happen to you, they will no matter how many relationships you enter. It’ll be the same results just with different names and faces.
* In your career, you might expect that you are worthless, not able to be recognized, not paid enough, over-worked or too stressed out. If you can’t change your expectations then you will never change your results.
Once we expect something to happen to us, and believe it strongly enough, we automatically begin to act and attract those situations and circumstances that will ensure these things happen to us because it becomes a strong part of the conscious and sub-conscious mind. This would be an excellent example of our expectations acting as a belief since our beliefs do indeed guide our actions into creating our realities.
Matter Is Alive With Your Thoughts
I want to give you an exercise to do that’s easy. I want you to observe your thoughts so that you can see yourself giving life to them. We all imbue our thoughts with a vitality all of their own. Many people desire to create more success or abundance in their lives, however, they are unable to produce high-quality thoughts that are capable of sustaining these results. You can’t expect to produce amazing results with low quality thoughts and output.
It sometimes helps me to think of my goal as a brick wall. I’ll then identify each individual step I need to take and monitor each thought I have. I’ll then ask myself, “Of what kind of quality is this thought? If it were a brick, would I trust that I could build a strong and steady wall with it? Would I want to use it at all?”.
Every thought that you put out in the world has been given birth by your mind and your intentions. It carries with it it’s own energetic frequency that is tied back to you. The quality you put into those thoughts will come back to you since we live in a universe where All Is One. You always get what you give without exception. The body that you are occupying right now is the result of your living, conscious thoughts that have been shaped to create your body. We often look at people and get “vibes” about them. The way they appear, the energy they give off and other little subtle clues says a lot about them. If you are intuitive you can feel this quite clearly yourself.
Everything from the body you have to the results you produce in life is a result of your own conscious, living energy that you are constantly moving from non-physical to physical reality through your emotions, imagination and expectations. The quality of our health, of our relationships and of our lives in general and overall is directly related and tied into the quality of our innermost thoughts, feelings and actions. When you look at a person’s finances, health, happiness or any other area of their life, these things are ALWAYS a window into what they are thinking and feeling without exception. Our thoughts, by way of our emotions, are perfectly projected into our realities without any flaw.
Can You Change Your Reality?
The answer is yes, you can change your reality. But first you have to work through the hardest part of life:
You must learn that your beliefs ABOUT reality are not TRUTH; they are just that – your beliefs ABOUT reality.
To put this in better context what I’m trying to say is that most people take their beliefs about life and blindly accept them as FACTS without questioning them. Since there is no inherent “right” or “wrong” in life, and everything is a matter of personal preference and opinion, we can say that our beliefs about reality are just that – our own personal beliefs about the way that life and the world works. We always create around these beliefs and everything we do, or don’t do, in life is a direct result of what we believe to be possible or impossible.
There is a strong part of the mind that fights to claim that these beliefs are to be regarded as “right” above all other things, so you don’t ever think to question your own beliefs as this could force your mind to lose it’s grip on reality and what it has come to know to be true about the world and how it works. Regardless of what you think, these beliefs continue to create the landscape of your reality.
When you want to change anything in life, you begin by working through all of the things that we have discussed here. Starting with your thoughts, beliefs, actions and expectations, you can begin to creatively imagine what you want in life and then begin to work towards that knowing that you are a living energy creating and sending out thoughts of other conscious living energy that will either work to create or repel your desires based on how you feel in relationship to them and whether or not you even believe you can have them.
